Turkey's telecom market keeps expanding at a remarkable pace. Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu has published the Information and Communication Technologies Authority's (BTK) market figures for the second quarter of 2026, and they show broadband internet subscriptions climbing to 100 million 846 thousand 626.
The mobile side tells a similar story: including M2M lines, subscriber numbers reached 102.2 million. The sector currently counts 418 licensed operators and 766 total authorizations.
Investment volume nearly doubled
One of the most striking items in the data is investment. Sector operators poured 55.6 billion TL into the market this quarter — an 86.9% increase compared with the same period last year.
On an annual basis, mobile subscriptions grew 6%, rising from 96.5 million to 102.2 million. Excluding M2M, the number of real users stands at roughly 87 million. That puts mobile penetration at 101%; when the 0-9 age group and M2M lines are excluded, the figure rises to 115.9%. M2M subscriptions themselves grew 36.4% to reach 15.2 million.
Turkey remains at the top of the European comparison table with an average of 468 minutes of mobile calls per month. Over the quarter, mobile voice traffic measured 77.4 billion minutes and fixed voice traffic 1.3 billion minutes. Number porting history is also notable: the total number of mobile numbers ported to date has approached 214.1 million.
Fiber reaches 10.7 million subscribers and 720 thousand kilometers
Of the broadband base, 79.7 million are mobile connections and 21.2 million are fixed. The payoff from fiber investment is visible in hard numbers: fiber subscriptions rose 22% to 10.7 million, while fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) subscriptions climbed 26.4% to 9.6 million.
Fiber line length reached 720 thousand kilometers, a growth rate of 13%. Legacy technologies look different: xDSL subscriptions sit at 8 million, and cable internet at around 1.5 million.
5G users exceed 44 million
The new-generation network's user base keeps widening. Real 5G users have surpassed 44 million 268 thousand, while the number of 5G-compatible devices has passed 29 million 777 thousand.
That density is reflected in data traffic. Total broadband data traffic rose 16.5% to 26.2 million TBytes. Mobile internet traffic grew 39.9% to 5.6 million TBytes, and fixed internet traffic increased 11.4% to 20.6 million TBytes.
The fixed network's subscriber count was put at 8.13 million. Internationally, the UK received the heaviest fixed-line traffic, while the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) was the country with the most incoming calls.
