Marvel Television, recently the subject of cancellation rumors, has surprised everyone with a new project announcement: Zodiac. The new live-action series will arrive on Disney+ in 2028. Filming is expected to begin in London in the spring.
The production marks the studio's first newly announced live-action series since Ironheart. Zodiac stands out for its ties to S.H.I.E.L.D.
Hidden messages in the logo
The first logo released shows traces of the S.H.I.E.L.D. emblem. Marvel Television head Brad Winderbaum noted that the logo contains hidden clues that comic book readers may be able to spot.
In the comics, Zodiac is a spy organization fighting against S.H.I.E.L.D. Its members are chosen according to astrological signs. One of the group's key figures, Scorpio, is Nick Fury's brother Jacob Fury. How this family connection will be handled in the series has not yet been revealed.
An opportunity for former agents?
Another open question is whether characters from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. might return. Chloe Bennet, who played Daisy "Quake" Johnson, previously expressed her frustration that the show was never integrated into the MCU's main storyline.
After a series spanning more than 130 episodes, Zodiac is seen as a potential door to bring the former agents back into the MCU. However, there is no official confirmation yet that any of these characters will appear in the project.
Marvel's return to the world of espionage is now clear. How deep will Zodiac's S.H.I.E.L.D. roots go? Which members of the Fury family will we meet? Will former agents get a place? These are the questions awaiting answers.
