Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which hit theaters on July 31 and took global box offices by storm, is now making headlines for its digital future. Under the agreement between Sony and Netflix, the film is expected to arrive on Netflix in December.
Record-Breaking Momentum
The film's theatrical run is already historic. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, it broke Avengers: Endgame's opening record in the US with $360 million. Its first worldwide weekend pulled in $932 million.
The critical response was equally strong: a fresh 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes and an "A" CinemaScore. With that track record, the Sony and Marvel co-production carries serious weight heading into its digital release.
The Date Remains Uncertain
According to Global Box Office on X, the film will join the Netflix catalog in December under the Pay-1 agreement. The same source predicts it will become the most-watched licensed film in the platform's history.
Neither Sony nor Netflix has confirmed the date. Some suggest November 28, while other analyses point to a later window. After its Netflix run, the film is expected to move on to Disney+.
A $7 Billion Deal
Behind the scenes sits a multi-year "Pay-1" deal: after theatrical and home entertainment, first streaming rights go to Netflix. Sony, the major Hollywood studio without its own streaming platform, has brought the global agreement to roughly $7 billion.
The deal's scope is broad: Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, the live-action The Legend of Zelda adaptation, and Sam Mendes' four-film Beatles project are among the standout titles. An official date will no doubt be announced when it's confirmed.
