Microsoft has unveiled a new laptop aimed at developers, content creators and AI researchers. The Surface Laptop Ultra carries the title of the company's most powerful portable computer to date.
Blackwell architecture and 1 petaflop of AI power
Built on NVIDIA's RTX Spark platform, the device offers 18- or 20-core processor options. Graphics units based on the Blackwell architecture scale up to 6,144 GPU cores.
Unified memory tops out at 128 GB. The platform delivers 1 petaflop of AI compute at FP4 precision, and according to Microsoft it focuses on local workloads: the goal is to reduce cloud dependency so heavy models and autonomous agents can run directly on the machine.
Display, design and connectivity
The 15-inch Mini-LED PixelSense Ultra touchscreen has a 3:2 aspect ratio and a peak brightness of 2,000 nits. The haptic touchpad spans roughly 30% more area than the one on standard 15-inch Surfaces.
The chassis is 18 mm thin and weighs about 2 kg. The port list covers USB-C, USB-A, HDMI, a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a full-size SD card slot. Appearing for the first time on this model, the "Magnetic Connect" port uses magnets to combine charging, data and video transfer in a single connector. Platinum and Nightfall color options are available.
Storage and upgradability
Storage options go up to 2 TB. Since the SSD can be replaced or upgraded by the user, the device's lifespan can be extended at the hardware level.
