Google has redesigned the search bar in its app. The new bar is thinner and white, with a subtle shadow that makes it stand out from the interface. But the real change isn't in the looks — it's in how it works.
The plus button speeds up file uploads
The plus (+) button, placed on the left side of the bar, lets you add an image or file with a single tap. Previously, you had to tap the search bar first to access this function. The button also offers access to switching models in AI mode and creating images with Nano Banana.
Clearer labels for Nano Banana and Search Live
The shortcuts below the search bar have been updated too. The Nano Banana button, previously icon-only, now reads "Create" underneath, while the Search Live button is labeled "Talk". This makes the shortcuts' functions clear at a glance.
The new design is rolling out gradually. Once the update reaches your device, you'll start seeing the new bar and labels.
