Can a device sitting on your face all day listen to things you never asked it to? That is the question raised by recent reports from Ray-Ban Meta glasses owners, who say conversations are appearing in the Meta AI app's history section even though no voice command was given.
Same story across three pairs
A Reddit user says they experienced similar incidents on three separate pairs of Ray-Ban Meta glasses — second and third generation models. According to the post, the glasses were never addressed with "Hey Meta," and the hands-free response feature was kept switched off, yet recordings still appeared.
White light on, no activation tone
In the account, the recording process starts without the assistant being manually triggered in any way. At that moment, the white notification light on the frame lights up, but the familiar startup tone never plays. Most users only learn a recording exists when they browse the history inside the app.
All of this rests on personal accounts. There is no independent confirmation that a software glitch on the glasses is triggering recordings on its own, or that audio is being sent to Meta's servers.
The roadmap from support
When the user took the complaint to Meta's support line, the reply suggested three steps: cutting off the camera's microphone access, disabling the feature that senses whether the glasses are being worn on the face, and clearing the voice history.
But turning off the microphone means giving up the assistant's most basic capability. It is also worth noting that the suggested steps do not explain the source of the recordings. Until Meta confirms the problem has been resolved, it cannot be said that it has been fixed.
What is known so far
- The claim rests solely on a user post.
- Similar experiences were reported on three different pairs (2nd and 3rd generation).
- The white light turns on but no activation tone is heard.
- Meta's suggestions limit functionality and do not explain the root of the problem.
