Hollywood's appetite for video game adaptations shows no sign of slowing down, and the latest title to make the leap is a big one: CD Projekt Red's sci-fi epic Cyberpunk 2077 is heading to the big screen.

According to Deadline, the project will be produced by Paramount Pictures, marking the first time the dark, neon-soaked world of Night City will be adapted as a feature film.

The project is still in its earliest stages

With development only just beginning, no release date or premiere plans have been announced. Details about the cast, the director and the story are also being kept under wraps for now.

One familiar name is already attached, however: producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, best known for the Transformers franchise, will serve in the same role on this project.

Given his track record on big-budget action films, Bonaventura's involvement has already fueled curiosity about how Night City's atmosphere will translate to the screen.

The news follows 40 million sales

The announcement comes on the back of the game's commercial success. Cyberpunk 2077 launched in 2020 amid serious technical problems, but years of updates turned it around and delivered major profits for CD Projekt Red.

According to the studio's latest statements, the game has now surpassed 40 million sales worldwide — a figure that suggests the film adaptation could reach a similarly broad audience.
