Huawei is taking a new step in wireless, contactless file transfer. The company announced that its HarmonyOS 7.0 update will bring an "Encrypted File Sharing" feature to its devices. The new feature aims to securely transfer audio, media and documents with a hand gesture.
Contactless transfer with a flip gesture
The system detects the user's hand gestures via the phone's camera or dedicated sensors. This time, an intuitive "flip" gesture replaces the "hold and drop" method of earlier versions. The user starts the process by touching the photo or video they want to share.
When the sender touches the screen, a flip animation appears before the file is transmitted to the other device. This animation visually confirms that the file is being encrypted. Users can thus see that their data is protected before it leaves the device.
Strict rules on the receiving end
Security doesn't end at the sending stage. The recipient can't view the content directly. To access it, they must first save the file, then go to Privacy & Settings > Encrypted Shared Files.
The system's restrictions are also notable. Encrypted content can be viewed only once. Once opened, screenshots, screen recording and re-sharing are among the actions the system does not allow.
With this architecture, Huawei aims to keep privacy standards at the highest level. Which devices will receive the feature, and when, has not yet been announced.
