The Face ID problem plaguing iPhone 18 Pro owners remains unresolved even after the iOS 27.0.1 update. The bug, which suddenly freezes and restarts the phone, has driven some users to seek service. Apple, however, is turning down replacement and refund requests from those who installed the update.
When exactly does the problem occur?
The bug is mostly triggered on screens requiring facial authentication, such as banking apps. As Face ID initiates, the screen freezes and the device then reboots itself. Apple says this crash — logged as "panic-full" in system records — stems from software, not hardware.
The update didn't work for everyone
Apple had announced it fixed the bug with iOS 27.0.1. Yet some users keep experiencing the same issue; the phone can shut down and restart on its own while charging or watching video.
In the early days of the problem, roughly 1,500 phones in South Korea were replaced with new units. For users who installed the update, however, replacement or refund is no longer an option. Those whose issue persists are, for now, stuck with their current devices; no statement on a permanent fix has been made.
